Hi Tom:
As you know I am using a 2003 E350 chassis for ease of mounting, due to my lack of extraordinary skills like many of the helpful members on this site.

The most important aesthetic issue, in my opinion, is centering the wheel in the fender well, and filling the space with a large enough tire. I am sure some of our knowledgeable members will come up with a solution for me and you.

Regards, Mark.

The van/stepvan/motorhome chassis is popular because of the steering box location and layout. A very important consideration for a COE.
Also keep in mind the track width.....

and ....

The only good cab step support on the parts truck.

and test fit on the project....

and the search continues for cab steps....

well FTE....

I found a donor chassis.

1998 E350 with a 7.3 powerstroke turbo diesel.

only issue is the guy thinks it has a blown transmission.

So....I went on line looking for a replacement transmission.

I find their are 3 possible transmissions.

can anyone explain what the difference is???

3 different 4r1000's

A.T., 4R100, 8-445 (7.3L, diesel), ID F8UP-DA
A.T., 4R100, 8-445 (7.3L, diesel), ID F8UP-EA
A.T., 4R100, 8-445 (7.3L, diesel), ID F8UP-TA

and one e40d

A.T., E4OD, 8-445 (7.3L, diesel)

why are their three different choices for the 4r100?
will any of the three work in the place of the other?
will a e40d work in the place of a 4r100?

I built many of these on E350 chassis's and you can just use a newer wheel to get away from the 8 round hole style.
I did see a black 56 coe on a E-series chassis that was running 19.5 wheels down in Tennessee.I believe they were Alcoa wheels

Yesterday was a good day. I spent the afternoon working on the 1998 E350 7.3l Diesel donor.

Here they are side by side back at the homestead....

I started with the fuel level sender. You see since in bought the truck I have had a full tank of fuel. I figured I couldn't be that lucky, so I pulled the sender/pickup from the tank in order to check the condition of the sender.

after a visual inspection and testing I have determined that the sender has failed.

yeah.... I broke a stud..... damn rust.

I have searched around the web only to find the sender for this truck is in the $300.00 -$400.00 range...

Once I get the cab mounted and rewired I will worry about a sender.

either I will break down and purchase a new one, maybe I will find a truck sender and see if they are the same for the aft tank units.... maybe I will get lucky and find another cutaway in a salvage yard with a good sender....

next on the list was stripping the cab in preparation of its removal.

First issue I found was it appears the previous owner had a alarm blinking light wired into the ignition thru two relays.

seems like a lot of work to simply get a dummy alarm light....

and after a solid afternoons work.... the cabin is stripped.

I was left with a nice pile of steel from the dash support assy, and all the plastic junk that was attached to it.

and of course the main reason for all that work.

the dash side wiring harness.

next weekend I am not working on the Crew cab project I will strip the nose off the E350 and start separating the cab from the chassis.

close.... this would be the correct one.

And the one you listed is for a 5.4 gas engine truck.

There is no fuel pump on mine and the sender/floate arm is much longer

MotorcraftPS146 $278.79

well gang it was time to finish stripping down e350 and make room for the c600 cab.

I started by separating all the remaining goods from the cab.

Heater hose
2 computers
electrical connections to dash
brake booster
etc
etc

And then broke out the trusty come-a-long and pulled the cab to the back of the chassis.

which left me with a nice wide open chassis.

And here is the 56 cab resting in its temporary position on the 1998 e350 chassis.

And the nose now slide on the e350 vans radiator support.

As you can see the coe cab needs to be move much further forward.

Which will also require some trimming of the floor/radiator support for engine clearance.

and the coe nose needs to be moved in a few inches.

so now I have decide what to do with the Coe column and box that I no longer need. Scrap or hold onto it try to find a buyer.

And then their is the 53-56 f250 chassis that came with the cab. I've had the chassis on CL for months now with no bites. Looks like it will be scrapped.
