My truck had been running rough & losing power. My suspicion was the UVCH, and I figured I'd get to it sooner or later. I was over due for inspection so I brought it in to a shop that I deal with and asked him to scan it for me, regarding this issue. He pulled a code for the IDM and CPS. Just curious if the UVCH would make the IDM throw a code? The motor has at one time or another shut down a bank and given a CEL. Only lasted a few minutes at a time. I do have an autozone crap CPS in there still. Any feed back would be much appreciated.
Yes, UVCH can cause the IDM to shut down banks and that would throw a code. Did he give you the code? Best to get Ford or International CPS and be done with it.
My IDM went bad last year. The truck would lose 75% of its power while in flight and when at idle the motor would lope really hard and shut off if I didn't press the accelerator. If I tried to move in reverse it'd kill the motor. That's the extent of my experience with that.
As far as the CPS goes, I keep and extra in my glove box. I've read on other threads that the CPS you want is the most current supersession of the original Ford part.

Thanks, yes he did give me the codes. They're written down on the receipt. Also got a code for # 2 injector.
If it were me I would get a good cps in it.then ohm the valve cover connections and see if there is a problem.that will narrow it down to one side or the other.if those are OK then do you have anyone you can try your idm in their truck to confirm or deny it as a problem?
I did all that last week on a buddies truck.I thought for sure his vc gaskets were suspect.it turned out to be his idm.

Hey Fordman, thanks I'll do that ASAP. I lost the damn receipt where the codes were written though. Yeah, the right cps is a must. The only friend i have with a 7.3.............. is a 2002 excursion. I know the idm is not so convenient to get to on that. also is it the same ?
I was thinking that I would replace the cps and have him re- scan it. This garage I use is under contract with the school dist I work for. They'll do me the favor.
