Clutch Bleeding
Ok, I have a'95 Ford Ranger, base model, 4cyl, 5spd, about 55k miles. I was having problems getting it into gear....1st gear and reverse. Once I got it in, it had no problem shifting from gear to gear, but sometimes at traffic lights I would have to really slam it into gear. I know, I know, slamming anything isn't wise. But when someone behind you is losing patience and it's your only option, what am I to do?
Anyway, I was told to bleed the clutch fluid line. I followed some instructions which said to open the valve, let the fluid drain out until the bubbles stopped, then pump it and tighten the valve back up. The directions were a little more detailed than that, but I don't want to write them all out. I've done it, including variations of the directions, and no matter what I can't get any action from the clutch. The pedal just goes to the floor and does nothing. I made sure the filler canister-thing under the hood didn't get too low. I'm really stuck here. I'd take it to a shop, but it's parked in my basement and I can't get it out unless I drive it out...the clearance is too low for a tow truck to get in there.
Can anyone give me specific directions on how to deal with this? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE, I sincerely appreciate that there are friendly, knowledgeable people out there that are willing to help!
I bought my syringe at WalMart, it is 'suppose' to be used for 2cycle oil...but it works for the clutch too!
Good Luck
I had the same problem in my 84 Toyota (on 33"s!!):-staun You might be able to get it into gear from a stop by pumping the clutch pedal until it builds up enough pressure. Then, if you can change gears without your clutch, your good enough to make it to the shop or at least out of the parkade...
