i am working on a 96 ranger with a 5 spd and a 2.3l engine and it had a bad squeel i took it to les schwab for new tires and they told me i needed new brakes,schocks,and axle seals. they wanted 800 bucks to change all the other stuff. i got the new tires and changed the brakes and axle seals myself, the only problem i had was the 8 mm bolt in the differential, i had to buy a new one, i have the 7.5 differential, anyway the bolt came apart in two pieces and it looked like someone else worked on it before,got it all apart and back together with about 4 cans of brake cleaner,parts cost about 100 bucks and took about 1 hr. got up early to miss the heat(about 5 am) i was done before the boss woke up now no more noise. i used 80w90 gear oil the diff. the seals were about 7 bucks each, and the brake pads were 19.00 and the rear shoes were 19.00 and the hard parts kit was about 7.00. next payday i will have the drums turned and the rotors too but no hurry on that they looked fine kinda smooth. the only problem i had was the passenger side rear didn't want to go on easily i think someone changed drums awhile ago because there is paint spots on the drum,it's not dragging just nagging in the back of my mind. no more noise i can turn the radio down now.
