I have a 1970 1/2 ton with a 390 and I was wondering which way the heater hoses hook up to the heater core from the engine and if there is a wrong way?
Mine hoses are colored red and black. The red one goes from the right (outside) heater tube on the firewall to the heater control valve to the intake manifold just behind the thermostat housing. The black one goes from the left (inside) heater tube on the firewall to the water pump. Clear as mud? I can send you a photo if you like.

It's just water, it will not really care if it is going one way or the other. The same with the valve, as long as it turns the flow off, the heater will not work.
I usually put the outer heater line to the water pump (with heater valve installed inline) and the inner heater line to intake manifold. Looks good, nothing crossed over and works fine.
