So I've gotten the hubs to lock and unlock with the switch now. Problem solved on that area.
New issue is the transfer case. Problem only started after I changed out the fluid on the transfer case. I noticed that the front driveshaft would turn as the truck drove. Being curious I went to check. Just to be extra sure, I lifted the front end. Spin the front tire individually. They're unlocked. That's a good sign. My hubs are set to auto. Then I dropped the vehicle down, and turned the front driveshaft by hand. It could only go 1/8 of a turn either direction but she was locked.
Now how do I go about unlocking the driveshaft from the transfer case? Is there a particular procedure? Just trying to reach out to the 4wd gurus out here. Truck is 05 f-350 drw 4x4 of cos.
One last question: how did it get locked in there in the first place? I'm curious to resolve this issue. Do I have to replace anything? Actuator motor? 4wd switch? Harness?
Thanks guys. Found out what the issue was. It's a combination. Shift motor is weak and I got sticky auto-locking hubs. The shift motor is starting to go out. I just noticed that the axle spline for each side in the front was turning when I spun the wheel. I should have caught it but didn't. Then I decided to turn the rotating dial many times to try to free up the catch on the spline. That method worked quicker on the passenger side than the driver side. For the driver side, I stuck a pry bar in the axle spline beside the u-joint to stop the turning, then spun the wheel. It caught and stopped dead, spun the wheel backwards, then it was free to spin forwards. Had to do that a bunch of times on the driver side front wheel. Now they're both free wheeling and the front driveshaft is free and not spinning anymore. Also, I backed up about 50ft and slammed the brakes. It did free it. Damn truck.
