Hi guys, I recently purchased a 2002 f350 7.3 powerstroke 2x4 dually ambulance from the FDNY with 142k. The engine seems to take a bit longer than it should to start, either hot or cold, But it runs great once started. I wasn't planning to keep it but after driving it to the west coast I decided to try and fix the little issues. I notice a bit of white/grey smoke for the first couple minutes when the engine is cold but it clears up. Also I noticed something that seems to be floating in the top of the coolant overflow bottle, it doesn't look like oil. It could be diesel? See attached photos. I got a scanner and have p1211 and p1105 codes. The check engine light only comes on if I'm flooring it and the ipr duty cycle goes above 50 or so. As far as I know, the truck is not chipped but I'm not sure.
Hpop max pressure is 3312 psi at 64% ipr going 80mph uphill. The duty cycle drops off with pressure. I'm thinking to replace the ipr and icp. Hoping the hpop isn't worn out!
The truck has an aftermarket Leece neville upper alt with large (250A) external rectifier. It's got 3 huge phase wires and 2 little wires. Would having this alternator automatically cause the p1105 on this one?
Battery voltage is at 14.4 when idle, I don't seem to have any charging issues but not sure if it's the lower alt doing all the work. Can I disconnect one to test? I was thinking of replacing with a stock alternator but I think they cut the harness to install the new one and I don't have a wiring diagram. I'd like to keep the aftermarket one if it's good.. It feels hot to the touch when running but how hot is too hot?
Also I think some bushings are worn out, what's the common stuff that goes bad down there? Looking forward to getting this truck in tip top shape!
Weird stuff floating in the coolant
Had an upper radiator hose failure and caught this white stuff in the coolant bottle
