I have a 2006 f250 sd with the 5.4l in it. I am having trouble pulling my 4500lbs trailer. If im on the highway and want to pass a car i hit the gas and hear a low bass sound like huuuummmmm but barely get any acceleration. If i am going up a hill its hard to make it. I start loosing speed so i give it more pedal and the check engine light flashes saying cylinder 6 misfire and engi e to lean. Also if i park on a hill downwards and turn the wheel the engine stalls. Ive also had random stalls when driving. Just cut out almost like an electrical problem. No spudder or anything. I have changed the plugs and tested the cats. Anyonw have any ideas?
Did some testing. I took the gas cap off and drove around and it seems to drive way better. Can a fuel pump start to get weak? When fuel is pumped out of the tank is a vacuum created? I have trouble filling up gas at a gas station because i believe its not vented. I replaced the charcoal canister and that didnt help. But if i disconnect the canister i can fill gas fast and the truck runs normal again.
the tank should be vented via the charcoal canister, but it should be a one-way vent (check valve to prevent fumes getting out)
i could see having a plugged vent line causing a vacuum in the tank, which would mean less head pressure on the pump, but the fuel pressure at the rail should be regulated? there should be a pressure sensor in the tank though, is there any CEL for that?
lean mixture definitely costs a lot of power. see if you can get a vented gas cap as a test (or just leave yours off for a while) and see if it really does help. then that could point you to the real problem.
