So I have never been impressed with the AC performance and last summer just accepted it. This year I serviced it with a nice long vacuum time to insure all moisture was out, filled it and verified the pressures. I put a dial thermometer in the duct to see air temp and found at idle it will only blow about 60. Not too great. I replaced the heater control valve just to be sure and when I tested the old one it seemed to seal properly. Searching found several people talking about insulating the low pressure hose. I will try that.
What are your duct temps? Am I just going to have to live with it because it is normal or are there any tricks to get this thing nice and chilly?
60DEG is not normal or acceptable down South I have one that was around 50DEG which still does not cut it. Replaced the Or Tube & got it down to 28-30DEG .. You should be 30 or under on MAX after 15Min or so
Well I found 2 things out. First my thermometer was not reading properly. It read spot on in boiling water but I put it in the refer and it read 60 so...in the trash it went. I replaced the orifice tube for giggles even though my pressures were good and found metal shavings on the old one. I guess I have a compressor in my future. After servicing it again and verifying the evap core is flooded and the condenser is scrubbing off heat I am getting low 40's. I think it is as good as it is going to get.

Yep low 40's is good! Whenever I do A/C work I set the fan to the #2 position and put the system in recirculate. I've gotten some cars down to 35deg by doing it this way. You'de be surprised the number of people that don't know how to operate the HVAC system in a car. Not saying you don't. But I've seen people come in with the fan on high and set to fresh air on a 90+ deg day. Makes the A/C very inefficient.

I had someone come in saying his AC was "Cool, not cold". I checked temp and it was blowing 33*. He wasn't happy with that. I told him there was nothing that could be done. We have people come in with the AC button off complaining of blowing warm, push the button and we are heroes.
