Diff. Gears

Hey guys, this question has probably been answered before, but I'm too lazy to find it, sorry.

I was wondering which gear would be the best choice since I'm running 33s. I was looking into the 4.11 4.27 and 4.56. I use it mainly on the street. I have a 96 bronco with the 5.8 and auto transmission. Thanks guys.

Your 4th gear is .71, so with 33s and:

4.11s you get 34 mph/1000 rpm, or 2720/1931 rpm at 65 mph in 3rd/4th

4.27s = 32, or 2826/2006 rpm at 65 mph in 3rd/4th

4.56s = 30, or 3018/2143 rpm at 65 mph in 3rd/4th

Go 4.56s. Your trans will run easier that way. Your gas mileage...never mind, you must not care about that.....

And everyone on this forum is at your beck and call? If you're too lazy to search, then others may be too lazy to help you.

This is only true if they stay with the tire size Ford installed.

No, no it's not. Even with stock size tires, I don't know what Ford was thinking putting 3.55 gears in these trucks. They're horrible around town AND on the highway. Acceleration from a stop is crap, and they're too tall to maintain speed in overdrive on the highway. The slightest acceleration makes the trans downshift to 3rd. I'm keeping my stock 31" tires, but I'm re-gearing to 4.10s the first chance I get.

3.55 gears. You think that is bad what about those trucks with 3.31, 3.08, or 2.73 gears? 3.55 is a decent driving around gear for a truck with stockish sized tires(no bigger that 31") but if you want any performance then life starts at 4.10 and goes up from that with oversized tires. 4.56 gears wouldn't be out of line for a 5.0 trucks and 33" tires.

Hahaha aight thanks man, and thanks to everyone else. Sorry I haven't checked up on this I've been too busy. Ill probably look into the 4.27s , if I buy a daily driver than maybe the 4.56 will be the way to go.
