Ford 460 V8
Well from my experience you can do it if you get the 83 bellhouse-the 1st yr that a std was available behind a 460-that is if you already have a external balanced 460 79 and up-I have a 79.
Now I 1st tried the 351/400 bellhousing-didn't work-the bellhousing is about 1/4 inch longer on the 460 and I broke the 351 bellhousing trying to pull the 4 speed thru the last 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Now I have read about other people on this forum using a 351 bellhousing , a 390 flywheel and pilot bearing which fits deeper in the 460 crank so the trany will go up all the way-but I never tried that. I now have an 89 zf 5-speed in my 79 f150
