Yeah; thanks for trying to help, Gary, I had PM'd him just around the time he said he hadn't heard from me in a while... AFAIK this trip will still happen sometime....
AK cruises: Mid May-Mid September.
Ifin you want to take a "cruise" before/after these times, the accommodations are wanting at best. You have to bring your own food/drink, or buy it aboard.
Sleeping is either on deck in a tent (it's freezing!), or in your vehicle that you drove onto "the boat" (you'd have to be a 'little person' if it's a Fiat or Smart!) or you have to rent a cabin.
And these "cruises" take forever to get there, and then when you do get there, you have to take another "cruise" to return to your port of embarkation.
AK Transportation barges depart/return tothe major shipping portsofSeattle, Bellingham, Anchorage (Seward), make many stops in between. Have a nice cruise!
Here are a few early teaser pictures of my newly painted 1985 F150, painted in code 51 - Medium Fire Red:
I absolutely LOVE this shade of red. It's very unusual compared to the more modern reds. And it looks much better in person.
Indoors or in the shade, the color is a deep, rich red. In the sun, the red brightens up a bit to match the sprayed-in bedliner. In medium light, it has a cool red/orange/brown look to it...just like the color of fire.
Rick - It is beautiful! Where did you get the wheel well mouldings?
Thanks!
This truck was completely disassembled before it was painted. The body panels still have to be aligned and the paint buffed, and I am working on the interior right now.
Other than the carpet, windshield, and side glass, everything on this truck is (or is going to be) genuine NOS Ford parts - no aftermarket junk here! ALL sheet metal is Ford.
Those are NOS Ford wheel lip mouldings that I purchased from Green Sales Company. They have been in my possession for almost 10 years!
This settles the question of Medium Fire Red..and..Medium DARK Fire Red..My '84 is MDFR..Looks way darker than this beauty !!
Like NumberDummy said earlier, there isn't a separate color called Medium "Dark" Fire Red...only Medium Fire Red. The aftermarket may call it that, but that's not what Ford originally called it.
Look at your door jamb sticker or the buck tag under the hood. If the paint code is 51, then it is Medium Fire Red.
If it is darker than this, you may have Candy Apple Red or Dark Canyon Red.
It is painted and the cab is mounted on the frame and the doors fitted and aligned to it. But he is wet-sanding and buffing the bed and will then to bolt it to the frame. At that point he'll temporarily mount the radiator support and fenders, and deliver it to me. That will let me start on the wiring as I want to stand in the engine bay to do the mod's I'm going to make, meaning adding the power distribution box, eliminating the fusible links, etc.
That is the color of my Bronco. It is called MDFR in the aftermarket. This is the first time I have seen an actual FOMOCO catalog with the color listed. Good to know.
