Hey I'm also 17 and I've got a 64 f100! A lot of the guys will tell you to make it mechanically sound before starting on cosmetics and I highly recommend disk brakes. But yea, try to make it reliable before shiny.

Tell us some about the truck, what motor and transmission? Has it been in the family for years? Does it run yet?

Also post some pictures

The beds rought a lot. People go to junk yards and find other bed bottoms, put flat plate in, or even do wood beds.

The beds rust out in places where salt is used on the roads, or where it rains constantly like in the PNW. People fail to remove leaves and other vegetation which collect moisture.

But, if properly maintained, the beds usually have no rust.

The 1965 F100 8' Styleside I bought new 3/1965, sold 11/2009 had a few dings on the wheel houses, otherwise the bed was minty without a speak of rust.
