What was the correct 292 engine color? Mine is presently light blue but I have also seen them red (my 62 F600 I had years ago) and also in black.
Also this concerns rear bumpers. Is the 1961-63 frame width the same as 1964-72? The 1964-72 bumpers and brackets (mine is NOT a stepside) are available repop but the 61-63s are not. On my '62 it has a home made bumper that looks a bit yucky.
And questions remain. But it appears that '60-'64(?) truck engines were generally black. Here's my '61 F-350 with 292, restored to my best estimate of original colors: black block, heads, intake manifold, oil pan, etc. Note: valve covers on F-350 models may have been silver (argent) rather than vermillion and exhaust manifolds and crossover pipe -- gray on my truck -- may have been black, or white, or un-painted, or....
Your engine looks exceptionally nice and thanks for sharing the pic. Fortunately my engine compartment needs only a good bath as the inner fenders and radiator support have no rust out which is surprising. The late owner's granddaughter who sold me the truck said the motor had maybe 20,000 on it and the lack of grease and oil buildup on it indicates that might be true.
I figure most of the questions I might ask have been covered in another thread but I'm on a limited data plan and sifting thru dozens of pages would take too long, so I just ask the question again.
ALL 1960/65 FoMoCo engines were painted black. The valve cover(s) were painted specific colors, as this was how FoMoCo identified engine sizes for garages/body shops.
Beginning in 1966, all Ford engines were painted Ford Corporate Blue, including the valve cover(s).
whats the best way to go about painting a engine anyway? Mines inside the truck and has some old paint and surface rust on it, would I need a primer first?
My stock rear bumper brackets are from a flairside bed I happened across in my local P&S. They looked the same as the ones used on the custom of contour bumper used with the early style side bed. They were not quite the same but all I had to do to make them work was drill a new hole in the frame for the bolt. I don't remember if it was the rear or front hole for the bracket to frame.
Custom factory rear bumper purchased for $5 at a parts swap meet. Flairside bumper brackets are the exact match. This a painted model or they came in chrome. I believe you can get either or in repop. Flairside rear bumper brackets are repoped also in plain metal or chrome I believe. Been a while since I put a tape measure on my frame width think it was either 32 or 34 inches. I think all the way up to 73.
