I was wondering if anyone could give me some clear cut answers on the 5.4 3v... ive been reading and reading and cant seem to figure anything out. I have a 2008 F250 with a 5.4L 3v, 4x4 6" lift on 35s, and low and behold I blew the motor.. I have the motor out and in the process of taking it apart and cleaning parts, just wondering what can I actually do with this block, im looking to put the 5.4 back in but wondering how to build it so it last a little longer and with more power and fuel eco at mind, can I put a set of mustang heads on it to make it a 4v? or is there any options to make it work? solid cam gears and a tune to make it run full advanced? convert it to a 4v? or a crate engine that doesn't have cam phasers, pretty much looking to do anything that will bolt to my tranny and I can pro charge.. looked around for v10s and theres not much in sask.. im pretty good at macgyvering stuff and im not the biggest fan of stock outfits so the crazier the better thanks for any replies and help!
well I put lock outs into the cam phasers but I think I was two links out on my timing and I lost oil pressure and there was some serious banging going on so I parked it, its my main set of wheels so I didn't want to have to tow it home again, idled fine after I got it home but as soon as I gave it gas it would lose oil pressure and bang and rattle.. and I was banking on doing the cummins swap but the truck I was going to buy fell threw last min. im looking for a higher horse power 5.4 application
I think if it was me I would get a crate engine with the purpose of putting on a supercharger if you want to stick with the gas engine. If you want to go diesel then the Cummins swap would be ideal but I would use Ford s 5r110, this is an excellent transmission with a excellent track record and you already have one.
