How the Hell do I Do this?????

Ok, i read through a previous post about replacing front Rotors on an 89 Bronco with Auto hubs. But none of the posts talked about actaully doing the project. I bought Aimco Rotors from Autozone yesterday with out the Hub assembly.

Does anyone know how to do this. THe Haynes and Chilton Manuals do not give a good description at all. I dont have the cash to bring it to a mechanic and wanted to know how to replace the rotors myself anyway.

Can anyone tell me what to look out for, any tools needed and maybe a breif list of instructions. This will be greatly appreciated, since Im takin the truck to Lake George Next Week and need my brakes.

Thanx Fellas.

I have a 90 that came stock with auto hubs and I have since switched to the manuals. The change is not difficult and should be able to be accomplished in a couple hours. First, obviously, remove the tires. Next remove the auto hubs. Behind the hubs you will encounter a Nut that you will need a special socket to remove. You can purchase (or borrow from Autozone) this socket at any parts store. I paid around $27 for mine and I use it frequently. Before you can remove this first nut you will have to remove a c type lock washer. I overlooked this washer on my first experience and ended up trashing the spindle nut trying to remove it. Once the first spindle nut is removed you will encounter another washer and nut. Remove them as well. Your hub and rotor should now pull easily off the axle. Be careful not to booger up the threads on your spindle. You will now need to remove the hub from the rotor and this can be difficult if they are rusted. I found it much easier with the studs removed. While you have the hub and rotor off you may as well replace and repack your bearings and replace your grease seal. Installation is the same as removal. When installing the spindle nuts you will want to tighten them and then back off a 1/4 turn. The washer between the two nuts needs to align with the inner most spindle nut so that the post on the nut has the hole in the washer overlapping it. When accomplished tighten the outer spindle nut and then back off 1/4 turn. Good Luck and if you have any other questions post them and I will check back.

Press out the wheel studs on the hub/rotor. Rotor will now come off the hub. If you have ABS, the excitor ring on the inside of the rotor will need to be pressed off also. This can be done when pressing out the wheel studs. If you do each stud incrementally you will in effect push the ring off the rotor.

actually i read the previous post and i think it is a little miss leading. you do NOT back off the outer lock nut you must torque it to aproxamitly to 160 ft lbs .
