The motor is a y-block, and not a flathead like he listed. But what I'm curious about is the grill. It looks like a 1953, but from what I've was reading, y-blocks weren't available until 54.
So, my question is, was there ever an overlap where the late 53s got a yblock or the early 54s got a 53 grille? Or is it the the more obvious, and likely answer that one or the other has been swapped over the years?
I'm not buying the truck. I'm just more curious than anything.
Well now that is interesting. It's got the 239 Y-block, but the voltage regulator is on the wrong fender. I'm no expert, but I would say engine swap at one time. Although, why would you swap in a 239 unless the swap was done in the late 50's.
$500 parts truck? For someone that wants the 239 if it spins.

There was no overlap. 1954 models got the 54 grille and the OHV engine. One or the other has been changed at some point. Most likely the grille, because many folks have not found the beauty in the 54 grille that others have. (but she has a great personality. )

I'm going to say that its a 1953 that has had a Y block installed.
The voltage regulator (that has already been mentioned) is on the correct side for a flat head v8 and a 6 cyl but not for a y block.
Also the earlier cabs (1953) did not have this indent and the truck in question does not have it if you look at the firewall near the exhaust
I also believe it is a 53 with a transplanted Y-block for these reasons: the hood side emblem is a 53 and 54, so that rules out 55 and 56. The heater is a left over from 52. I have never seen this style heater in a 54, 55, or 56 trucks. The instrument panel has gauges for the oil pressure and generator. F-100's starting in 54 had idiot lights not gauges. And of course the grille is a 53 grille with the three pointed star indicating it was a 6 cylinder. Now all of these could have been changed, but that is highly unlikely.
Kevin, interesting point you made, never knew that before.
