Rev Limiter?

I was getting on an onramp and I forgot to shift from second to third...talking to my passenger and I wasn't paying attention...

Anyways, my Ranger felt like the the rpms were going up and downand my shifter started shaking a bit? Does This mean that it has an over rev protection?

I don't know much, but I know I love my Ranger (singing like Aaron Neville)...and I'm sorry about hurting it if I did...
