First post here. First of many to come though. I recently picked up a 63 unibody big window and after digging into it have discovered a bit more rot than I'd like to tackle. I'm hopefully picking up a better condition 62 soon but need to decide what to do with the 63? Part it? Sell it? Don't want to see it go to a crusher because I don't think it's at that stage. What are the big window cab sections worth?
Thanks
Mark
It looks pretty good, I see no signs of collapsing cab mounts. What are the main areas of concern? IMHO it's a desirable and fairly rare body that can be repaired. Whats difficult for you may not be for someone else so I advise you sell it.
Now is it a gold mine, no. Likely it may take some time to sell it. You have to be patient and realistic.
The truck does look good on the surface but if there are sections requiring refab. and welding it can become a major project. As mentioned it's a desirable and rare truck and would seem a fellow enthusiast would be interested in taking it on as a project??
If decide to let it go I would sell before parting out. Perhaps list the truck; or better yet, check for local auto swap meets and trailer the truck to the event and park it in the 'for sale' section while touring the event. Noticed there are a couple weekend events scheduled in July, Puyallup, Wa, and August, Spokane, Wa. sponsored by the GoodGuys Rod and Custom Association, these events usually draw huge crowds here in Ca. during the summer months.
There's also the FTE classified forum?? Anyhow food for thought??
I appreciate the comments. It's not that I don't have to skills to bring the truck back to life, but that I don't have the desire to take on such a large project. The wiring harness has been severely tampered with and would probably require starting over, and the stock engine and trans have been poorly swapped out with a later model 302 and a C6 (I believe). The bed is rusted through up near the cab (common I know), and has gotten it's way into the back of the cab itself. The floor pans would need replacing as well as some of the bracing underneath. There are also large sections on the body that have been mudded over and would need to be redone in order to look right. All that being said I picked up a 62 unibody last weekend that's more of what I'm looking for so I'll be throwing the big window 63 up for sale (as an entire truck) this week.
Thanks
Mark
