I've been window shopping for a new truck for a number of years. I've looked around periodically at used vehicles and am very surprised by the stupid high prices of used truck prices. Either folks do a bad job of getting a good price when they bought the truck new 3-4 years ago or today's buyers are willing to pay almost new prices for a used truck.
Don't get it, but I'd prefer new anyway and prices of used trucks make the justification of going new pretty easy.
As a comparison, the last used vehicle I bought was a 1999 Toyota Landcruiser. New MSRP was in the mid-$50's in 1999, but I bought it with 40K miles and 4.5 years old for $29K in 2004. It'll be turning over 220K this week and has had less than $300 of repairs outside of normal maintenance since I bought it. In addition to a truck, I'll always own a Landcruiser for my wife to drive.

Used car prices? ...Agreed!
They are so high it's stupid.
I have an old (2003) Jeep TJ, 75,000 miles on her, in good (not great) shape. It's been my local-errand-runner since new. Reasonably outfitted.
Dana 44, ARB locker, on-board air, Warn M-8000 winch, Warn rock rails & bumpers, the usual Jeep crap.
I was at my local Ford dealer recently looking at a new F-350 and I asked the sales guy if my Jeep was even worth trading in.
>>> I figured if he gave me 3 grand on it for a new $65,000 truck, I'd unload the Jeep on him.
The dealer told me I'd be nuts to trade it.
Turns out the Blue Book value on that old TJ is $12,161.oo
I checked CraigsList and ten grand is the average price for a 2003 TJ in good shape, not to mention the garage full of accessories & parts I've amassed.
My point?
Only a fool would pay $11,000 for a vehicle such as my Jeep that is only worth (IMHO) about $3000 at best.
Off topic & long winded as usual but meh... I dont think we'll be seeing much else here until the state fair comes to town.

Especially if they're not already completely kitted up, with a huge lift and massive tires or worse a bad lift and trashed suspension. A 5-10 year old Wrangler in near-original format is the perfect blank canvas for an off-road build, so you aren't buying into someone else's setup that might not match exactly what you want.

My particular TJ is a gem because it was NOT molested, super low miles,
... and driven by an "old guy" that never off-roaded the thing.
Ten more days to the unveiling!

I talked to my local Ford dealer and asked if he had heard anything related to the date he might be able to order 2017 SDs. Or when he might know about packages etc. He had not heard anything, as expected. He did state that there would not be any 2017s on the dealer lot until the calendar shows 2016. I guess that is not news to anyone but me.

So your thinking that the 2017 F250 / F350 will not be available until August or September of 2016? That's hard to believe that Ford will introduce a vehicle that's not available for 11 or 12 months.

That's what my Ford rep told me, and based on the ordering cycles it makes sense. Job 1 for the '16 was only in the end of May, and they are barely keeping up with demand. I don't think they'd cut this year short. We should be able to order '16 through 1st quarter and then they do have to change the whole plant around. Even if they stopped taking new orders today I think you'd still be into the end of 1st quarter until they could do Job 1 for 2017.

It does not seem to be good marketing to have the reveal on September 24th then not have the units available until next fall. That's a long to time to matin customer interest. I guess that's why I'm not in marketing.
I can't remember how long it was from the 2015 F150 reveal until the units were on the dealer lots.
