300 + Aod
i'm running a 5500lb 76 F250 4x4. Currently it has a 351m that someone swapped in from the original 360, and an NP435 4 sp tranny.
the modified is tired, and the input shaft for the tranny is just about beat out.
once the summer is done, i aim to remedy the situation. Considering my truck has 4.11 gearing, I figure that the 300 I6 kicking around in my garage would work well in it.
I also have an AOD from a 1988 302-equipped LTD. I'm really thinking about trying to put this in the truck. I don't think the 300 will give that tranny much grief, but I'm worried that the truck might just be too heavy for it..
Can anyone shed some light on this scenario? I understand that the AOD's aren't the strongest trannys, but could I get away with a monster cooler? or is internal work necessary for reliability??
What about a Ring Gear??
