I bought one for my '54. It went right in with no more than the typical need to be a contortionist working under the dash. Got it from Mac's Ford Truck parts; about $240(!). Comes with the wires, a 2-speed switch, and a black ****.
BTW it looks like the motors prior to '54 are about $160 and for some reason the price jumps to $240 for the '54. That's OK, since I am (apparently) trying to spend as much money as I can on this truck.
Anyway, of course it works MUCH better than the vacuum system. The range of the wiper sweep doesn't seem to be quite wide enough though. I might be able to adjust some of this if I ever get time. Bottom line is it's well worth the dough.
Thanks a million...the vacume wipers are going to get me killed...
PS Dnt feel bad, I think all of us have spent more then twice what their worth when were done...its better then being in the house and being nagged at!!!
I've posted this before so hope you don't mind a repeat. You might try a wiper motor from a late '80's-early '90's Jeep Cherokee (classic). The motor will mount to the stock '53 F100 linkage (and maybe others) by slightly enlarging the 3 mounting bolt holes. Seems to work fine in my truck.
