1972 351c HO question
I can buy a 351c HO 1972. Dont have a clue about these engine. Want to install in a 1989 mustang gt. I know it's a truck forum but you guys have the best answer for the 335 series. I think is 4 bolts main with open chamber ? What is the head cc and compression? What about the pistons? Good engine?

This is a very rare engine, I'd buy it just because it's so rare. If anything, you could probably make money selling it to someone restoring 1972 Mustang 351 HO.
That said, this engine was basically a low compression BOSS 351, so it's a great engine. Compared to a Boss 351, it had a slightly milder mechanical cam (less duration, more lift), and used open chamber heads. According to the original factory data I have, these had 9.2:1 compression flat top forged pistons. Heads were 73.9-76.9 ccs with 2.19" and 1.71" valves. The valvetrain was adjustable with 7/16" thread studs (rather than bolt down) and had guide plates. It also had a bunch of other beefed up parts over a standard 351C.
In other words, I'd buy it!

Mustang81,
It kind of depends on what they're asking for it, but generally I would say "buy it"! The 351C was the engine that SHOULD have been in the Mustang all along anyway. If built right you'll blow the doors off any 302/351W powered Mustang.
A couple of simple oiling system mods, some good rod bolts, and RPM! Like any engine - cam choice is critical, try and get input from a Cleveland specialist and don't let a Chevy guy spec. your cam!
