I just install a new crate 351 engine in my 88 Bronco. The new motor started right up and sounds good. On my first test drive I noticed that I have zero power on inclines. The old motor had a lot of exhaust leaks and also lack in power but not like the new one. Nothing else has changed. Could I have a plugged exhaust system and because of the exhaust leaks on the old motor I was seeing more power?
Take it easy on that new engine. Baby it and keep the rpm's low for the first 500 miles or so. Once you hit 500 miles or so, change the oil. As the engine breaks in, the power will get better. Baby it for the first thousand miles or so and you'll have a great engine that will last a long time.
Have you checked your timing? How about your fuel pressure? Also, have you changed your fuel filter recently? Make sure that all of your sensors are hooked up, and all of your vacuum lines are good and hooked up to something.
