Well, me and daddy took the '84 to a mechanic friend, and he solved the '84's starving problem. Turns out that there was a lot of crap in the gas tank, which in turn caused the filter to clog up and burn the fuel pump up which the stale gas then got the floats stuck. So.....he flushed the tank, put a new filter in, and a new pump and carb cleaned the carb, and put a new battery in. We got it back last week. I drove it around the yard today and it's better, though it still wants to stall out on little hills every now and then but that's because there's still old gas in the tank. I'm gonna burn the rest of it out tomorrow and fill it up with fresh gas. The old gas smells like varnish when it's burned. It's not tagged or registered yet, so I'll have to use the '95 as the runner tomorrow. I'm enjoying tinkering around with this truck, it's fun.
Well I fixed the left taillight, and I checked all of them and they work good. The windshield wipers have got to be put back on, as a new windshield was installed last week. It can pass NC inspection now.
Glad to hear you resurrected another brother from the dead . Let us know when you get that bad boy registered in the monster mudder truck mud bog hehe.
What kind of setup is it running? (motor, axles, tranny, etc)
Well I drove it around the yard some more today. It's running better as it burns that old gas out. I took some cleaner and took off all the AAA stickers that were on the mirrors and dash board and now you cant even tell anything was there. I also got some good pictures last night and this afternoon of it with all the lights on and working, while climbing a knoll in the back yard. It's still rather hard to start, but I guess that's the stale gas at work too. I also found out that the radio works good too.
peronally myself i have not found a chrome paint that looks anything like chrome. Most look like silver paint that i have used. I would suggest trying black paint for your bumper or get it chrome dipped. But if you want a chrome bumper at low cost check the junkyards. but if you have plenty of money to spend on it then get a new one.
Instead of rattle-can paint, look into powdercoating. It's MUCH cheaper and MUCH more durable. That's what makes the window trim on modern vehicles black, and it's the base for painted bumpers & rims.
Not many. I use an industrial powdercoater here - the manager lives in my neghborhood, so he gives me EXCELLENT prices. He runs the largest powdercoating facility in this part of the country: 8 automatic guns & 2 manual ones on a line that can handle anything smaller than 12x5x3'.
I never found a powdercoater in that area, so I can't help you. This guy has some chrome-look powder, but I haven't had him do anything for me with it, so I can't tell you how close it looks. I have a few things piling up that I want powdered chrome, but I don't want to give them to him until I have a substantial pile. It takes him a little while to clean the guns before & after a color change, so I'm not gonna pay that cost for 2 or 3 parts.
All the black stuff he's done looks great. I had him do ALL my recovery tackle (shackles, ****** block, etc), my rear axle (you can see it in my sig link), my spotlight, my door handles, and some other small parts, but I haven't had time to pull my bumpers yet.
Are you sure that your trucks a Bronco and not a Tank?? The way you've fixed that thing up, it oughta be able to take on anything you encounter. By the way, how did you determine what year yours was with all that stuff from other years on it??
I've run into a slight problem with one of the other things on the '84. I need to change the bulbs behind the Bright light indicator and the Right turn signal indicator. I was able to undo the 3 screws that holds it up there, but the headlight switch and the windshield wiper switch are holding it back, and it's too far in for me to reach the bulbs with my hands. I tried pliers too but to no avail. I'm afraid to take anything under the steering column off because I'm afraid that I won't be able to put it back on.
I'm rather new to tinkering on trucks and other larger things, I'm used to lawnmowers and smaller machinery.
Oh and I almost forgot, I'm almost finished with a hitch hauler like yours and I think it'll come in good use too when I need it.
Yeah, I like to think there's NOTHING that's really "in my way".
It was originally an '83 (when I bought it), and I've just kept registering it that way. It's easier for me, and I'm sure the OMV flunkies don't want all the extra hassle of creating a reconstructed vehicle title (despite the exhorbitant costs associated), so we'll just keep calling it an '83.
This site shows how to pull the wiper & headlight *****, but you also have to pull the column shroud (1 screw) to get the cluster bezel off (the thing you pried out). Then you can remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster in (don't break the shift indicator cable sleeve on automatics) and change the bulbs.
I had the hitch hauler on Friday when some of the guys I work with decided to go stir up the dirt, and you can see it in the "Lunch Break" album in my signature. Despite the extra ~1.5' of rear overhang, I didn't get caught on it.
Steve, i see your over here and hate to bother you, but if you could please look at my tranny post, i would appreciate it....sorry to interupt your post guys...
