Hello,
i got a carb from a junk yard, it works ok, but being it has sat, do any of you think that it would preform better, and get me better fuel economy if i were to rebuild it? I have a 1983 F-150 4X4, with a 302 in it, the carb is a 2BB and i think it is a 2150 model. right now i get about 10 miles to the galon, town and highway. thanks for all of your help!
Two barrel carbs are not noted for good milage as they must be able to flow around 500CFM to service the engines requirements at high RPM. The bore size is as big as the secondaries if a 600CFM 4bbl carb. The primaries on a 4bbl are much smaller and at cruise speeds the carb is mainly running on the primaries so giving better milage. What I am really trying to say is if you can afford it change over to a 4 barrel manifold and carb, either aftermarket or get one used from a breakers. Your milage and performance will greatly improve. If you do get one from a salvage yard, rebuild the carb to make sure there is no unwanted gunk in it.Hope this makes sense. SR.
