Rod side clearance
How much rod side clearance should I have?
Pulled the pan to inspect the lower end on my '90 5.0.
There is no metal in the pan, the pickup tube screen is clean.
The only thing that jumps out at me is the rod side clearance.
I can move the rods side to side, but not up and down. This tells me the bearings are okay but not too sure about the rod side cleance.
Should I be able to sllde the rods on the journals at all. It's not much but makes me curious.
If it were excessive would it make a knock only after it warms up, or would it knock even when it is cold.
I would think it would knock all the time but need to be sure.
