engine swap

hey guys I have a 1951 F-3 pickup and I want to swap from the 239 flattie I put in 18 yrs. ago. I have a 4.6 L V8 from a 92 merc
complete with entire wiring harness and I have a 260 V8 from a 1963 Fairlane. Anybody have any experiance installing a 4.6 in this body/chassis?

engine swap

Slick,
I don't have a 51 or similar era nor have I done a 4.6l swap on one, but I do recall related threads here on FTE. Suggest you try a "search", enter some keywords (like 51-52 engine swaps, etc), select a fairly long time frame ago (6 mos?) and try this forum and the engine forum. Hope this helps; I saw that you haven't had any responses yet, so maybe this will get the ball rolling for you?

IMO, I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. I know guys have put 302's (5.0l) in their 48-52's quite frequently, so I'm sure it's not an impossibility.

Anyway, good luck...
Daryl

I also have not done this swap, I have installed a fuel injected 302 in a 50 F1. The 4.6 is much wider than a 302/5.0. I don't think it would be a problem, but remember the old adage "measure twice, cut once" or something along those lines. If anything the exhaust could be problematic with stock steering. Good luck.

markd,
I think the old adage (at least for me) is
Measure twice, Cut once, Screw up anyway, go buy more stock to cut!!
