ABS indicator light problem

99 F150 5 speed A/C only Plain work truck

My problem is when I start the truck the ABS indicator light comes on and as soon as you turn on the headlights the truck quits. When you turn off the ignition and turn off the headlight switch the lights stay on. You have to disconnect the battery cable to turn off the lights. This one really has me confused. Has anyone come across anything like this before. Can anyone help me with this problem. I replaced the battery and the alternator right before any of this happened.

With a multimeter measure the voltage at the battery. Turn key on and measure voltage again. After starting measure the voltage again. The ABS light may be coming on due to low voltage, and with enough battery draw if the alternator isnt charging and the battery low enough the headlights coming on could draw the battery down to where the engine dies. The headlamp relay could stick in the on position with weak enough voltage. I know it sounds odd but I have seen it in the past.

Thank you Homer very much. I will try that right after work today and let you know if that is what it is. Sounds reasonable.
