Hey 'fenders, didn't you go through this with your 53? Seems like you found the distance between the mounts with a "normal" load in it and then got some shocks that were about mid-range at that length???

Yes, that's what I did. I put the vehicle on jackstands and measured it at rest. Parts store will have a buyers guide with travel range listed. The most important number is minimum length, or full compression. You should be able to measure how far your axle travels before suspension would bottom. One good bump can trash a shock at full compression. It is far less of an issue if your axle dangles by the shocks at full extension. If your truck is lowered much, your shock choices are very limited but you'll be able to find one to meet your needs. You can also use a larger rubber bumper to limit the axles travel.
