Hello. I have a 1995 F150 with a 5 litre engine. My starter was acting up, would start, then just click. I replaced the solenoid on the starter and it started fine. I turned it off and started it again a few times with no problem. I drove it home (I was at my in-law's place) and when I parked I turned the key to the off position, then the starter started spinning, but not engaging. I turned the key to the on then off position but it wouldn't stop spinning, I finally disconnected the battery. Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened? All I replaced was the solenoid on the starter.
Thanks for any advice
Jeff
My guess is the solenoid is faulty, it is sticking and trying to keep power to the starter.
If not, then the ignition switch is faulty and sending power when it shouldn't be.
I would attach the battery and see if it still spins starter. If it does, then I would pull the small lead off the solenoid and see if it stops the starter. If it does, then the ignition switch is bad. If not, then the new solenoid is bad.
