I just picked up my new F250 SD PowerStroke on Saturday. I ordered it in May, and it arrived about a month early. The dealer said it's the first '04 of any kind that they've received. Surely there are others.
The new 6.0 is tremendously better than 7.3, and I liked my '01 a lot.
Will get some pics soon. 6.0 is much more powerful than 7.3. Revs smoother, quicker. New AT shifts smooth as butter. Much quieter. This is my 4th Power Stroke, and every one has been an improvement.
Everyone is different some of us want to have all of the power and torque that a gasser can't deliver, but don't really want the racket. If I could get 400HP and 650ft/lbs that is not loud now that sounds like the perfect truck.
Originally posted by Rich H Try driving a 96 or older Power Stroke or one of the earlier diesels for 16 hours, then get in a new one, and you'll understand what I mean.
Believe me, I'd prefer the older one.
If I could, I'd make the POWER STROKE sound like the old CUMMINS (95-98).
I despise quite diesels.
They sound like BENZE's or VOLVO's.............. ARGH!!
I want mind to sound like a truck, not like a car!
OPHUS, I understand that some individuals want quiter diesels, but not all of them do.
What about the ones that don't??
They're only satisfying the ones that do want them quiter.
I can appreciate your opinion and position on this. I'd just prefer a little less noise. My first Power Stroke was a 96. I sold it with 150K miles on it, and by that time, it was so loud there were days I hated to start it up.
I replaced it with a 99, then an 01, and now an 04. Each has been quieter than the one before.
These trucks are work trucks, but work is all over the country and requires a 500-1500 mile commute to get to the job, then long days around construction equipment and big trucks.
Don't you think they're getting a little too quite now?
I mean, this isn't going to stop now. In five years, they'll be quiter than now, then five years after that, they'll lower the volume a bit more. So in twenty years, they're going to sound just like any other car you approach at a light.
I don't think they are too quiet. I don't think they need to make them whisper quiet, but I'm against noise pollution. I don't like loud engines (not even Harleys), loud stereos, etc. My ears ring all the time already, and I want to be able to hear the rest of my life.
I was okay with the noise level on my 01, but I'm pleased that the 04 is quieter.
I don't see anything wrong with a diesel that is as quiet as any other car. I fueled up the other day after a VW diesel and before a new Dodge. The VW was pretty darn quiet, and the Dodge was a tremendous improvement.
I haven't seen a Mercedes diesel for a while, but they were already as quiet as a gas engine. I see nothing wrong with that.
My boyfriend got his F-350, CC - 6spd., DRW, 6.0L today. We ordered it the end of May - it was #1674 - the dealer said the numbers started at 1000 and it was the first 2004 vehicle our dealer had received. Ford sent two identical trucks with his name on the sticker - figure that one out, the dealer was thrilled to get another one.
