Burning Oil

well guys im about to give up on this truck. I have a 1997 F350 7.5L and all of a sudden it started burning alot of oil. I noticed it the other day it started smoking out the exhaust so I drove it home and when i parked it by my house and reved it up a little it spit oil on the side of my house. I pulled the plugs and both cylinder 1&4 plugs where covered in oil. my only guess would be is the piston rings went bad. Note: it just rolled over to 90,000 miles and i changed the plugs on it about 3 months ago and no oil on them at that time nor did it burn any oil before yesterday. Any ideas would help before i decide to get rid of it

Burning Oil

Yup, sounds like rings to me. Run a compression test, then you will know its either rings or valve seals. I'm betting on rings.

Check for a plugged breather on your valve cover. 90k is a little early for the rings to go, unless you never changed the oil. Try replacing the pcv, and make sure the breather tube off of your oil fill cap is not blocked.

Don't give up so quick!

Change your truck's PCV valve and clean out the PCV hose or replace it, too. A PCV valve that gets stuck open allows the engine to suck oil straight into the intake manifold in high volumes. This is the most common cause of sudden increases in oil consumption.

At the same time, change the oil and filter. Use a low volatility oil such as Red Line or Mobil 1 10W-30 High Mileage.

Not only are these oils less susceptible to vaporization at high temperatures (which vapors would be sucked into the intake and create deposits on the intake valves, spark plugs and in the combustion chamber), but they are very effective at cleaning the inside of your engine.

These oils may be more expensive than what you've been using, but they are a lot cheaper than giving up on your truck.

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

2-140
3-120
4-110
5-140
6-140
7-120
8-140
Im going to do a leak down test this weekend. I checked pcv valve and that is clean and still seams to be fine but i will remove it and run it with it off and see if that changes anything. I have already put alot of money into this truck. the owner i bought it from beat the **** out of it and didnt take care of it. im a ford lover so i was trying to save it. but i think it might be to late. although a engine rebuild is still cheaper than buying a new truck. she is pretty though. I let you guys know if i find anything out
