I recently purchased a 2002 F-150 Super Crew 4X4 Truck with the FX4 Package and the Tritan V-8. It only had 15K miles on it so it was practically new. I love the looks, the ride, the handling, the comfort and all the interior room. The only thing I am unsatisified with is the GAS MILAGE! I have been averaging only about 11-13 MPG. Being a former Z-71 owner, I was expecting to get at least 16 - 18 MPG out of the ford (Since that is what I got in my Chevy Z-71, and it seemed to have way more power).
My question is, does anyone know if the FX-4 is geared different, or tuned different then a standard supercrew 4X4?
Also, any suggestions on the best / cheapest way to improve MPG on this truck would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I have read through several prior posts, and I just wanted to say before hand that I am not looking for ANY tips on "how to drive" to improve gas milage. What I am looking for is suggestions on the best products I can purchase (such as Air Intake systems, Exhaust systems, Performance Chips etc.) that will give me the best bang for my buck in improving overall gas Milage.
i just installed diablo chip and mac air intake - runs great- in city i got 15.04, 16.09, and 16.99 first three tanks- we'll let ya know how mods work out!
Im new to this and went to the Diablo chip site and do not know which I need. How do you figure it out. I have a 2003 f-150 4.2 v-6. no mods as of yet but want to do a mac intake , headers, etc...
Something else to consider: keep up on tire pressures, use a 10W-30 or -40 SYNTHETIC oil and synthetic trans fluid, K&N cold air kit, Superchip or Diablo, Granatelli Mass Air Flow sensor; cat-back Flowmaster exhaust system and long tube headers get a little pricey for the return. Higher octane fuel doesn't get better mileage, just reduces the tendency to detonate ("knock") under a load. After that we just have to 'grin and bear it.' Good luck! Jim
I have a 2000 f-150 super cab with 119000 miles on it. the best I have done is 16.5, but I'm usualy closer to 15. . I have used mobil one since 10,000 miles, but recently switched to castrol synthetic blend. No milage diference noted with the oil switch.
