A couple of my local competitors stock them, one even orders it on the SuperCrew 4x4 with a trailer-tow package! That tells me their guy in charge of ordering is about as sharp as a bowling ball...

The online configurator will not allow you to order a supercrew 4x4 with the 3.5NA. As soon as you pick those options, you have to go up to a 2.7EB (at least). If you also add the 6-1/2' box, you are forced to get either the 5L V8 or the 3.5EB.
Well, my locator is showing 4 of them at one of my biggest competitors. Here's the VIN to one of them: 1FTEW1E82FFA97684
The description only says 3.5, we all know that it can't be the 3.5L N/A. In fact, the 3.5L N/A isn't even available on an XL truck configured into a 4x4 with Screw.

It says more:
Code:
Engine & Powertrain
Type
V6 Cylinder Engine
Displacement L/CI 3.5/
Fuel Type Flex Fuel Capability
Horsepower 283.0 @ 6500
Fuel Economy 17.0 City / 23.0 Highway MPG
Fuel Capacity 23.0 / 36.0 gal
Net Torque 255.0 @ 4000
With those kind of specs it is certainly NA.
Where I messed up was that I was configuring with a 6-1/2' box. At that point, you must go 3.5EB.
I drove one at the Ford event, it was the only Ford motor that lost to the competition on the drag race. That's not to say it's underpowered. Frankly most of these trucks are far over-powered to what their owners use them for. If I was buying a truck today it's be an RC 3.5NA. Still has 7k towing which is more than I need. If you just need a truck, the smartest thing is to determine how you'll use it on a fairly regular basis and match it do that. If you only tow your 5th wheel twice a year, to and from your seasonal site, just pay someone else to haul it and enjoy the savings. Sorry, I know this is a pretty un-American post. =-)

I have the 3.7l, and its way more than enough ........ been loaded down to the spring bumpers and didnt lack for power.......... wasnt all that long ago the 300 was in the 3/4 tons, with nowhere near the hp of this 3.5 and about the same torque, with nowhere near the gear advantage......... all the 1/2 tons from all manufacturers are well powered these days.....
Service manager at my dealer told me I should seriously look at the 3.7, now, the 3.5 V6. He said those engines have been tough, he hasn't seen any problems at all with them. I don't know, maybe the old boy who ordered those is sharper than you might think! I'm seriously considering one if I can get it configured like I want: Supercrew, max tow, highest end 3.5 they make... Don't need 4x4, but would take it.
