Remote Starter Instalation
Can someone point me in the right direction with help !!!!!. I am stationed in Germany. I bought a 1996 Ford Explorer
Sport 4x4 with American specs. I bought it to take with me to Iceland. My question is I have a remote with keyless entry that came with it. It has three buttons on it.
Lock Button
Push it once the doors lock Push is a second time the horn beeps once.
The unlock button
The third is a panic button.
When you lock the vehicle there is a light in the dash with the word theft that lights up for a few seconds and then flashes. I am still confused whether this is an alarm or a antitheft device. The person I bought it from said that the person he bought it from said that it was standard alarm system installed by ford at the time when the vehicle was purchased brand new. The only way I can get the horn to set off I assume its an alarm is by the panic button, or to sit in the car set the door lock feature and wait until the theft light on the dash blinks and open the door from the
inside and the horn goes off that way. If I shake the vehicle, it will not do anything when I set it. Now my question is I am going to Iceland and I want to put a remote start into the vehicle but would like to make sure it is compatible with what I already have. I want to find an inexpensive remote start system that will get my car warmer in the winters of Iceland. Can you help me choose the right system that will be right for my vehicle to include any special adaptors that I any need as well.
I am not sure if my 1996 for explorer sport has a Passlock or PATS I was told that after 97 is when they started to install those in to fords. I have no special key for the vehicle which would indicate that I have one of the above systems. Thank You for your help.
Also I was tol that the RS-4LX remote start Kit would work but I needed to know if my vehicle was a Negative or a Positive door lock system for the kit to work. It need and extra relay depending on the +/- deal. By chance would anyone know what this year was + or -
