Recently i purchased a 1955 ford c600. I have always loved the look of a coe and finally got my hands on one when it popped up on cl locally. Now that ive got it i have successfully got it running and moving under its own power, however i have no got it stopping yet. I have went through and bled the whole system, however if you let it sit for more than a minute without pumping the brakes the first time you hit the brakes you have to pump them 3 or 4 times before the pedal comes back. Im going to start with a new master cylinder. Everything else seems to be working as it should.
Im curious the best place to buy parts for it? I work at the local O'reillys and our books list the c600 so a lot of the parts i can get at work, however when i run into parts i cant find at work id like some resources for finding parts. Also does anyone know where i can get or download any service manuals or parts cds?
My only advice on your brakes is adjust them up real tight and see what that does. You don't have to drive it like that, you just have to understand if the real problem is brake adjustment. Then you can fine-tune it a little.
A lot of (most?) old medium-duty trucks like this had a separate brake booster with a 2nd master cylinder. Does your truck have that?
Yeah its got the single line master cylinder witch goes back to the hyrdrovac boost set up. I've got the new master cylinder at my store waiting for me to put it on
Interesting, I have never seen a C600 with Dayton wheels. My C750 has them also. A 600 would normally have Budd wheels. I suppose Dayton's could have been an option.
Hi there. I also have a 55 C600. How did your fix of the brake issue go? I recently drove my truck from Texas to San Diego. The brakes were "redone" by the Vintage Dealership that I bought it from. I havent pulled the wheels and brake drums off to see what that really means. My first pump of the brakes was lower than the 2nd on the trip home. I did a brake adjustment on the way home on the side of the road and found the star wheels each needed 4 or five clicks to have the wheel lock. This helped the first pump of the brakes not travel quite as far but didnt bring it up to where the 2nd pump is. I have been home now for 10 days. The truck hadnt moved since I parked it from the 1400 mile Texas Trip. I moved it yesterday and found the brake pedal to travel quite far. I only backed the truck out of the parking spot the length of the truck and it stops but the pedal is low....I guess I have to go find out what's up.
Hi there any chance you can snap a picture of your vin tag in the glove box? I need to see how the tag is printed for all the information EXCEPT the VIN you can hide that for your protection. I need to have AG Backeast make a new vin plate for me and he hasnt done one for a "Larger" truck like one with a two speed rear end where both ratio's need to be listed to be correct. Need to see what ratio is listed 1st. Need to see if the ratios are separated by a "-" or a "/" or ":" etc also need to see how the gvw is listed....a photo would be the best so we can get the format exactly correct....PLEASE help

You might want to try an add on residual pressure valve in your brake system. The symptoms you describe sounds like the origional one may be not working right, bleeding back and causing excessive pedal travel.
