So this Bangladesh thing was pretty clumsy. The Skype connection didn't last, and we accomplished nothing. And as always, it's about bottom line...ugh.

I always thought that it was called a 5'er because most of the trailers that are 5'ers have tandem axles on the trailer (each tire is a point of contact) plus the gooseneck hitch (5th point of contact)

Kinda what it felt like lol.

Our sister plant in Spring City uses a drafting service over there to draw some of their projects. They look at it from the advantage of "cheap" labor to help keep workflow moving. Not sure how I feel about it...but...not my call.

Back in 2001 when my office contracted out a project to take our maps and convert them from mylar that we maintained with a Leroy set and pens into CAD files, we had a contractor that quoted in their proposal that they would use "off shore" resources for most of the project. Guess where the off shore work was going to be done??? Yep, you guessed right. Needless to say, their quote was so out of line (low) we were able to disqualify them based mainly on their quality control which was not the best.

Bill, with our vintage truck....how does the front part of the arm rest on the door come apart? I noticed that on my driver's door the soft back portion is pulling out from under the hard piece that the switches mount to.

The arm rest on ours carefully pries apart from the rest of the panel. It just snaps on with tabs. The pull handle has to be unbolted from the back side (which means the whole door panel has to come off), I believe - can't remember. I need to clean the back of my driver's side one pretty badly but it's hard to get behind it with my big mitts to clean.

I guess these guys are pretty good as far as work quality, and obviously you can hire them for less than you bring a new employee on for. Still gotta manage them, and they can't do DOT work for us (it's just too unique and complicated). So, it's not really a work savings as much as it is a bottom line issue.

2 parts to the equation:
1) The fifth wheel coupling provides the link between a semi-trailer and the towing truck, tractor unit, leading trailer or dolly. Some recreational vehicles use a fifth wheel configuration, requiring the coupling to be installed in the bed of a pickup truck as a towing vehicle.

2) The term 'fifth wheel' comes from a similar coupling used on four-wheel horse-drawn carriages and wagons. The device allowed the front axle assembly to pivot in the horizontal plane, to facilitate turning. Basically a wheel was placed on the rear frame section of the truck, which back then only had four wheels; this wheel that was placed on the frame was the "fifth wheel" hence the name.
