Rancho Shocks????

I have stock 2003 4x4 V10 and looking to upgrage the shocks. Looking at Rancho's but I see 2 different models of the 9000's. The only difference I see is the extended and compressed lengths. Which ones do I need to order?

Thanks and I did try to search too.

Well from those links you need two of each- one set for the front and the other set for the rear.

I'd skip on the Rancho's. I have had mine installed for maybe 2 months and both of the rear shocks have some serious signs of rust on them. This is in Colorado, a place not known for problems with rust. I won't buy them again.

Inmates PM Rancho they are a forum sponsor/vendor should be able to help out.

Some members have used fluid film on other shocks as well.

You can contact Rancho's forum rep here Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: Rancho Suspension He was very helpful working with me to get the correct RS9000s for my lifted EX. I don't have the part numbers for the stock lengths, but those look to be pretty close based off the specs for my longer ones.

For better shock looks for longer you can give them an extra coat of clear paint (spray can) and a coat of wax or Fluid Film. I only waxed mine before install 3+ years ago and they still look OK......for 3 year old shocks.

I also found that before installation the adjuster assemblies come off easily with a small Allen wrench. I then coated the inside of that area with white lithium grease to ensure smooth operation of the adjusters over time, mine still turn as well as when new.

On your links to the Summit pages the Front/Rear description is directly above the "Estimated Shipping Date" and just below the 5 stars of the Review.

Got it, thanks! Ordered them today. Now just need to take out about an inch of slop in the steering and the X will ride/drive a lot better.

Edit: bought from a local vender who matched the price.

I bought my Ranchos from them, the price was right. But now I am having an issue with one of my shocks, it's leaking out of the bottom.

The problem that I have with 4 Wheel Parts is that I have to pay to send the defective shock back. Other online vendors just issue a return UPS label. The shock is heavy so I'm expecting to pay over $20.00+ to send it back. They wanted pictures of the shock, but I have not heard anything back from them. Would I do business with them again? Not with that kind of return policy.

Shocks are almost as bad as motor oil with opinions.

Having said that I say to each their own with shocks as everyone likes the ride feel a little different.

If you are hell bent on Rancho though I would suggest the 7000 series. IMO that is the best shock Rancho makes let alone for the dollar.

Good luck
