Exhaust Setups

Hi I am looking for potential ideas about an exhaust setup on my 1983 F250 7.5l 460. My idea is to go with hedman headers with a 3in collector to a dual in dual out magnaflow muffler and have it side exit before the passenger rear tire. Does this setup sound good? Do you guys recommend another setup? Let me know! Thanks!

Where do you live? Do you have inspections? Does it say "unleaded fuel only" on the fuel gauge and or the gas cap lid?

Many different ways to do it. I personally do not like long tube headers on these trucks, they come out too low. I ran a setup like yours, and put a elbow on each header outlet and ran them underneath each frame rail, and the another elbow pointing up to the rear at a 45 degree angle and ran the pipes outside each frame rail. The long tubes bring the pipes belpw the frame rails and that's no good for clearance or looks, or tranny pan access.

The long tube headers really hang that low? What do you suggest on getting instead?

I like the stock manifolds. I know they like to crack on the 460's, but new ones are not too expensive. You could see if they make shorty headers, I don't know if they do for 460's. But then you lose your heat stove to the aircleaner and have to make a custom one to hook it back up.

I don't use the heat stove right now anyways due to many people telling me that the engine runs better off of free flowing air and the headers will give my engine a little wake up with the increased airflow such as in hp and mpg that's why I wish to go to headers.

Sounds like you're confused as to the function of the heat stove and hearing what you want to hear.

If I said that to a moderator like you did I know I'd already be banned......

As far as MPG gain from headers, yeah right. Mine had a peashooter exhaust system with demolished cats inside that were a mess and after putting headers and a free flowing custom exhaust on it I gained a lot of power but MPG didn't change a bit.

ctubutis may tell it like it is, but I can assure you it is within your best interest. Lord knows how long he has been doing this, but ultimately (which is what I believe) 99.9% of the folks on this forum are trying to help folks, most of us are older and try to help prevent folks from going down a path (that they heard from a friend) would work based off tried and true experience of "yep tried that and it didn't work or you're not going to like it" If your looking for someone to jump on board with you to do something we don't agree with, I don't think you'll find that here, especially not with ctubutis, if you ask for an opinion but don't get the opinion you like, you are more than welcome to proceed with what you are planning to do anyways, lord knows you don't need our blessings. We are just here to help. That's it

You live in Michigan if your profile is correct. You won't like your truck if you drive it in the winter with no heat to the carb aircleaner, and no functioning heat riser in the exhaust manifold.
