6.2 Oil Change...How Often Do You Do it?
#19
1st was at 3,500 mi., second after another 3,500 mi., now every 4,000 (at the dealer, w/ Ford 5w-20). Any of us over 40 can't imagine the 7,500 mi. interval on the schedule, but "hypothetically", it is probably OK. It holds 7 qt., has a big oil filter, the Ford synthetic is really good oil, and engines run so much cleaner these days because of the better clearances, fuel injection, etc. Also seems Ford has nothing to gain with a longer interval - I would think they would make it often enough that the engine lasts, and, dealers could make more $ in the service dept. with more frequent service.
My brother used to take his VW's to Jiffy Lube (!?!?) about every 8,000 mi. and they all logged over 230,000 mi. on the odometer and were still running fine until they were wrecked or rusted...

I am kind of old school. Over 60 crowd. Changing every 3-4,000 miles or 4 months using MC 5 w20 ($17-18 per 5Qt) with MC FL-820s oil filter($3.97). A friend owns a service station and mentioned the Oils have advanced but not the filters. He said you would be better off doing what my dad use to change just the filter at 3,000 miles, dump another quart in and run it another 3,000. Guess it is all preference. I myself wouldn't think of going 7500. Crud rolling around on your cam chain etc... and filter full of sludge. I have added 8 oz's of a metal preservative called Militec-1. Used by our U.S. Military in all their vehicles and for their weapons. Classified as virgin form of synthetic. Added at every 15,000 miles. It is a preservative that bonds with the metal. About $25 per 8oz. I have used it in everything except brake fluid. Have to buy online plus they also make grease. I used it recently to repack our rv bearings. I like knowing I have extra protection on my motor. Another friend told me he likes the idea of no - dry start up. I myself am a military veteran and when I was in we had LS8 for our weapons and so on. This is some pretty good stuff and worth researching. I can't even hear my engine running at a stop light. Militec-1.com check it out. Plus, if you are a veteran, you can get 10% off. Have a good day.
Enjoy

First one at 1263 miles. Second one is happening this morning at the local dealership 4080 miles. I'll run a 4k interval and do the works everytime. My guess would be that it'll get changed 2-3 times a year.

Call me crazy but I've been doing the oil minder at 90% which comes to about 7,000 miles for me. Easy enough to have it done first thing in the morning at the Ford Quick Lane. Fold up the receipt and store it in the glove box.
Sad thing I learned today...It takes longer to wash the entire truck by hand than it does to get the oil changed!

6500+ on ticker going in Fri for second oil change and tire rotation. I find tire rotation is keen to maximizing mileage out of the tread and fuel tank. These 20"Michelins are not cheap to replace, there's also a rebate for the change and rotation thru end of Aug with the Ford Works Service
