Hello all, this is my first post on this board and just wanted to introduce myself. A lot of you guys might be interested in my old Expedition. It was supercharged and had a serious sound system too. It was a very cool vehicle. You can see it and my current ride if you click on My Pics below. I currently own an 03' F250 6.0liter with lots of problems and am getting rid of it to get back into a new Expedition.

This brings me to my first question. I am thinking about getting an 03' Expy. Can anyone give me a reason not to buy one right now? Coming from a Ford product with a brand new engine that has MAJOR mechanical defects, I am very scared to get into another first year vehicle. I loved my 99' Expy, but just HAD to have one of these new 6.0's. Live and learn I guess. I'm noticing a few issues with the new 03', are they major or just mostly minor stuff that can be resolved with a trip to the dealer? I have the option of buying an 03' or waiting a little bit and ordering an 04'. What do you guys recommend?

WAIT.

I just bought my wife a Toyota Sequoia because of all the '03 Expy problems. In fact, I hardly even considered the Expy after following the forum talk on '03's for the past year.

Does anyone know if anything will change for 2004 other than the price going up? I noticed that the base price went up $1,000 and the Class IV towing package is now an option instead of standard.

If you want an 03 Expedition get an EB that was built by December 02 for the least amount of de-contenting,or at least one built before February, they really decontented those after that,no more front ashtray,Audiophile sound system lost 60 watts of power, the alloy spare wheel became a cheap steel one,the power rear quarter windows became an option. The only plus is individual climate controls for both front seat occupants. Don't waste your money on a 4.6,get the 5.4. If you drive a lot on-road in severe weather conditions get the advance trac 4WD system,it really works from what I've heard from people who have it. Test drive it over some rough roads before you buy it and listen for any of the common rattles,(leave the stereo off,the Audiophile sounds so crappy you won't want to listen to it anyway),if you decide to buy it have the dealer fix everything before you pick it up.I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much better the 03's handle compared to the first generation Expy's. Good Luck.

I had the 7.3 PSD in my last S/D F250. It is really a shame they brought out the 6.0 w/o "perfecting it" or at least finished engineering it! For the money, I would wait for the '04 Expy, unless you can get a really good deal on a new "year old" '03.

What are the changes for the 2004 model year? From what I've heard, it sounds like the 3V 5.4L wont be available...that stinks.

Thanks,
E

No 3valve yet. Also, there are no major changes to the '04 models. Just trim levels and such. We have built a few '05 models, and they will probably have more changes than the '04 models. I believe the SVT version is going to be an '05, but I'm not sure yet. I'll keep you all posted.
