I'm new to this and just got a 1984 F150. I need to get ride of the old gas out of both tanks. One the gas gauge it says i have half a tank and not know how much is in other. What tje best way to get out the gas? And any tips on dropping the tank? Tips or what to look out for. Thanks
Siphon is the cheapest, hand pump from parts store is next cheapest, easiest is to go to harbor freight or parts store and buy a electric pump and drain away. Start hitting your strap bolts with PB Blaster now, use a good 6 point socket, recruit a buddy and get a jack. Pretty straight forward. Your sending unit is 31 years old, with the tanks out you might want to replace. you didn't mention engine size but if the pump is in the tank, I'd replace that as well.

Why dont you just disconnect the fuel line to the carb and run the pump? You wouldnt have to spend a dime.... When the first tank is empty switch the tank over and run it out. Are you running it with the inline pump?

great idea, I wasn't sure if he had in tank pumps, but after searching, it sounds like he does.
Mattn17, out of curiosity why were you planning on dropping the tanks?
