While I agree with you 99%, there's always this one percent part of me that loves the FE.
I could have put a different engine in my 67 mustang, but I wanted an FE. I found a 428cj and built it. It's fun. But I'm a mix between old school and new. I would love to blend the two technologies together. I have made an adaptor to put a 460 e4od behind the FE, but it's computer controlled. They make a couple real nice trans controllers, I've used them before, but now I want efi on the engine. I've put megasquirt on about 10 cars from the 60s to the early 2000s. I just wanted some ideas of others here.
Holley and Fast make square bore injection systems that will work on fe's.
They don't integrate with trans. They are also a little pricier than I want. There are plenty of aftermarket efi options, just none I really liked. I've used accel, edelbrock and motec, and they work fine. I just wanted something different.
I'm modifying a sbf distributor to work in the FE engine. After that it should be pretty easy to put ford efi on the engine and have it to control the transmission as designed.
I have an original 67 mustang s-code fastback... I get enough crap when people find out I put a 428cj in the car!
I would love to build an ecoboost classic though. I bet it would be fun. I have plenty more cars to do it with, just need the funds.

And how would they know without someone telling them? lol
I don't believe ford ever put tbi on a 460. I think the very rare 460 grand marquis had a carb. It wasn't overdrive anyway, so using really antique efi isn't on my list.
I was thinking about using a tripower intake with the ford Holley bolt pattern carb base tbi at one time, and use megasquirt, but the tripower intakes are pricy. Or if I could find a different dual quad, where I could use two gm tbi with an adaptor.
If I buy an intake to put fuel injector bungs in, I'll use some stock efi setup. Either 460 truck, with e4od, and get quarterhorse to tune it, or I'll go nuts, retrofit a crank trigger and use obd2 setup from explorer and a 4r70. We will see I guess.
This is on my to-do list also.
I have a good amount of experience tuning GM ECU's both in vehicle specific and the GMPP kits, but newer GM ECU's are probably a lot more complex system than is needed for the FE Motor.
All things being equal I really don't see a downside to the Edelbrock E-street EFI System other than there being no ignition component at that price.
Going the DIY route is probably as expensive as getting the turn-key kit from Edelbrock, but DIY will still require tuning that inevitably will end up being done by an experienced tuner for an additional cost.
I have EFILive for GM tuning and lots of experience with tuning newer GM E67/38 ECU's.
My dream goal is to use a newer GM ECU and do a full conversion including Coil On Plug, but I suspect that it will get executed with an old GM PCM and Throttle Body Injection only.
