I managed to break one of the leaf springs in the rear passenger side of my 97 E-150 conversion van. I will troll the scrap yards to see what is available....but I want to keep the nice smooth ride.
Go to your local Ford dealer and ask the parts guys where they get springs from. I did and they told me. I got a great deal, since if you order springs through the dealer they sub it out and charge you double plus install.
don't stick a used leaf spring in it. go to your local spring shop and get them to replace the broken leaf and the matching one on the opposite side. or buy the leafs/ubolts/centre bolts yourself if you are up to the DIY.
I was over to Madoc on sunday from the wingham area along secondary roads about 4.5hrs each way and some of them are just horrible, my trailer had the R side airborne a few times when it was empty. you don't need to be offroading the winter was hard on the roads!!!!!! knocked the bearing cap off the R rear wheel somewhere along that road, noticed it gone when we stopped in Orangeville on the way home.
I'd still rather drive those than the 400 series highways.

I travel those road quite a bit but I am sure I broke the spring when camping with Scouts and drove way to far into the woods fully loaded with kids and gear!
Please don't take this as bashing but does this off-roading and possibly over-loading that E150 chassis bear on this breakage?
Either way if this is a common hauler for your Scout trips I'd buy and have installed only new slightly heavier duty rear springs. Adding to existing high mileage springs won't serve you well over time.
Better to spend a few bucks up front to avoid down time at the most inconvenient of times.
Hey, I had the same thing happen to me today. The leaf just rusted out and snapped when I was going over railroad tracks today. Right at the end where it meets the mount on the frame.
I'll try and break some on my E350 but the load on my trailer Tuesday will only be a little Kubota lawn tractor so it might be tough. I haven't broke any yet but I sure deserve points for trying on the stock springs!
Hey now, that's what 13 years of Michigan do to a van. Turns out I had my verbiage wrong. My driver's side rear leaf spring shackle broke. $20 part, but 6 some hours to get the rusty bolts out. Gonna go through and replace the remainder of the leaf spring suspension at the end of the month.

I had lots of traction, enough tongue weigh to take some weight off the steers..
