I have had my truck for almost four years now, and i have had my ups and downs with the truck. The 400 with an "rv cam" (whatever that means) has been reliable, despite the duraspark leaving me stranded...twice. But the time has come to do an engine swap, and it will be...Awesome. Come next weekend i will be pulling the engine out, and attempting to do the swap in one week. Why one week? Well, that is how long my vacation is. Now, for the fun stuff. I bought the donor 1969 460 out a Lincoln continental that the owner was going to put a cummins into, not really relevant but i thought i would share haha. The 460 has been poked and stroked to a Nasty, 528 Stroker. On the dyno she made a sweeeeet 556 HP at 5500 rpms and 640 Ft Lbs at 3200 rpms. Got any stumps that need removing?
If you are wondering why the fuel line looks like total dog crap, you can thank Jegs for that. They didn't send it when i ordered it and are still looking for it(Roughly 3 months later???) The dyno shop improvised to get it to run. But! do not fear, it is on my list of parts to be fixed. Just like the valve covers.
And in case you are wondering, I own a 1977 Ford F-250 Free Wheeling Edition. And that is my buddy's 2004 Excursion.
Cool! Any other specs on the 460? Cam heads, static com ratio. What does it run on? what trans are you using to handle that power?
Yeah! The cam is a custom ground 224-234 Duration @0.50, .560 Lift on both sides. The heads are Trickflow 325cc with 2.20 Int/1.76 Exh, with 78 cc chambers. The comp ratio is 11.1, so i will be running 92 octane. I had a C6/Np205 combo built to handle the powaaah.
Well my vacation is over and i was able to get the the engine, transmission, and transfer case in. Unfortunately i didn't take a lot of photos as all the help i was told i would get kind of...went away. But! that didn't stop us..it did take Sunday to Saturday to get it going though... and all are 12+ hour days. Great vacation, huh? Anyways...
Got the aftermarket pulleys set up. Which would later become a pain in the @$$. The alternator sits to low and was hitting the frame.

Test fitting the fender well headers.

Got her fired up, She was running sweet did a short cruise with it everything went fine. Now here comes a bad case of the Mondays to slam you into the ground. Maddog headers didn't send reducers or collectors so i had to overnight some from Auburn, Washington from Stans Headers. Great people there, would recommend them. Got the exhaust all welded up, And it sounds great. Go to put into drive.....and nothing. I have no drive,1st, or 2nd. Reverse works and park. I guess on the plus side i did gain 3 more neutral gears? Checked the fluid, its at the right level, checked the vaccum and thats good. At that point i had to leave to make it back to North Dakota on time. So i had to leave my truck in Washington for the tranny shop to try and figure it out... Sad day. It was a long drive home to say the least.
I always joke that with the 460 I may not blow any doors off but I sure as heck can pull them off…..
Your Engine setup is a great sleeper and may make anyone regret going to the line with you. Good job and your truck looks very nice.
Very nice setup and great score on that power plant. You mentioned your alternator hit the frame. Did you change to a high mount setup? Those brackets look similar to the CVS Racing. Did you paint them?

Yes i did paint them, i had them powder coated gloss black. And they are cvf racing pulley system. I ended having to notch the cross member and build a type of recessed box into the cross member and cut a 1/4 inch thick piece of metal and put it under the motor mounts to raise the engine up. I was on a schedule, other wise i would have got the high mount option.
That is beautiful. . who needs Viagra with this build thread. Lmao
lol, no kidding. When i first drove it, i had trouble bending my leg after. Nice job on your swap too. I looked at your thread for advice and what you had to do on it, very helpful.
