As much as I'd like to keep them all, I have a chance to make a huge profit on this and it would really be the stimulus package to get my 40 panel project fired off. Nice 63,000 mile original.
Yeah, it still has most of the ambulance stuff in it. The gurneys, stretchers, suction stuff and some of the oxygen equipment are gone, everything else works. It is a really nice clean original truck, always garaged it's whole life (until now). If these things weren't notorious gas hogs, I'd keep it and get rid of my awd Aerostar. But I really want to stay the course on doing my 40 tonner panel as a diesel 4x4 and selling this would get a lot of the expensive stuff out of the way on the 40.
What is it, a 460/C6? An E-350? I know about gas hog 460s. My '97 does well to get me 10 mpg. Stu
This is a 73 and they were E300 and probably more of a 3/4 ton. The GVW is 6200. 302 was the biggest engine you could get in an econoline back then.
The more I look at this beast, the more it is growing on me and I might just keep it a while.
It's a C4 and Dana 20 T-case. Everything looks to be Ford parts bin stuff so I'm guessing it's Bronco trans and T-case.
Our son has a neighbor with one from the next van era, guessing 80 +/- Quadravan Club Wagon. Northwestern truck with no rot. I check it out each time we visit. It is a 460/C6. If I was you I'd keep yours. Never find another one from that era. Stu
Stu, for cryin' out loud just get out there and buy it before he changes his mind. That thing is crazy awesome and the whole van thing is just coming into it's own. Think Mr. T
The addiction has taken a rather ugly turn. Now I am really thinking I might just say screw the big garden this year and head for the Bighorns and do some fishing and camping with this beast and wait until fall to sell it.Of course the right number would probably still change that idea but the number is growing every time I get close to it. I took it for a drive today, needs the gas drained and some fresh stuff.
Well if yer gonna be one of those guys that lives in his vehicle, that's the one for the job. You can always garden next year, those fish need to be caught.
Yeah, last year I took 5 days and went to Bonneville, never did get ahead of the weeds when I got back and the person who was supposed to be watering didn't do such a great job. I got to thinking then that I was tired of being married to the garden and not being able to do some fun stuff without worrying about it. Now I'm just trying to decide how my 2 cats will take to travel and camping, lol.
Had a cat sitting on my dashboard coast to coast and back. No he wasn't stuffed. He seemed like he enjoyed it. With two they might get territorial, like "Dad ! Fluffy put her paw over on my side of the dash!". Other than that they will like it. We have chickens that tie us down so it's hard to get away on a trip. If the coons keep up their mischief, we can go on a trip by mid summer! I do actually like them. (the hens).
It's definitely staying, at least until fall. As soon as the Cheyenne river goes down, I'll be spend a few days down there. Throw some catfish lines in, do some arrowhead hunting and maybe some metal detecting where the old Deadwood freight trail used to cross.
