our expedition has switched into 4 hi and wont come out
i can switch from 4 hi to 4 lo and back to 4 hi but i can not get it back to awd
it does not have a 2 hi position, all it has is awd, 4hi and 4 lo
we did not switch to 4 hi it did it on its own and wont come out now
any help would be greatly appreciated as we have to take a youth group out of town in 2 weeks
thanks in advance
It can be caused by many things, the selector switch, the relay module, the contacts in the shift motor, a bad connection, etc...
For now, pull out 30-amp fuse #104 from the fuse box under the hood. That powers the front clutch for the 4WD system and should cause the front to disengage so you can drive it. If pulling fuse #104 does not disengage the front, then the front clutch in the transfer case is broken requiring the transfer case to come out and be repaired.
Nope, the clutch is electrical similar to how the A/C compressor engages, if the loss of power doesn't cause it to release then it is a transfer case internal mechanical issue.
