I need advice.. HELP

Ok, this friday i am going to buy a new (bigger) set of tires. I would like to put a set of Super Swamper SSR 38X15.50. I have a superlift 8" kit. Will these work ok, or wil they rub too bad. Any experiences?
I know three guys, one has a 6" skyjacker with 38's and no problems, and the other two have 8" lifts and 39's, but i am not sure how wide.
My driving is 99% on-road. Any input at all is greatly appreciated. THanks!

I need advice.. HELP

I have the 38-15.50-16.5 radial swampers on 16.5x9.75's and they never rub except on the leafs. I've even flexed it by driving one tire up on a bank until it spins out from the rear tire unloading and they won't hit with the tires turned either way. Very close but that's more than I ever do in normal driving. If you jump your truck like all DC's pictures you might have problems but I think you'll be ok.

Yeah they will work fine on the street for your app.
If you run them on 10" wide rims you will rub on the leafs.......12" wide will rub the plastic inner fender and you probably would have to shim or trim a little bit on the front bumper.

Off roading is where you would have problems but not really an issue in your case.

Hope this helps.

rrmike,, what pics are you referring too

Yep they will rub on the leaf pack when you get close to full lock.

An option would be to add like a .25" (more or less depending on when they start to rub) spacer to the steering stop to make it hit before the tires begin to rub.....or when you feel them start to rub just not to turn so much.

It will mark up the inside of the sidewall......about the same as when you rub up on curb........at least that's how they look on one of our trucks ('88 F-350 DRW 4x2) where the tires rub on the sway bar. Not sure how much this actually effects the tire though....we haven't had any problems.......yet....

Hope this helps.

It's actually a little different I think than a sidewall rubbing a sway bar. The sidewall doesn't rub it's the lugs on the tread of the tire. You get this thumping sound that you can feel in the wheel and the more you turn the more you're pressing those big swamper lugs against the leafs. It doesn't really hurt anything. Just rubs the paint off that spot on the spring pac and marks the lugs up a bit but it's hard to tell unless you do it a lot! I don't worry about it and just don't turn so sharp any more. After a week or so you will know exactly when they are about to rub. Like DC said you can add a quarter inch or so to the stops but I don't worry about it except when I gotta let some moron or chick at the dealership drive it. Man that drives me nuts to watch. They will take off and the first corner they come to they crank the tires so hard you can see the whole truck shaking and it's almost trying to stop the tire from turning and they slam on the breaks and look around trying to figure out what they hit or are running over. Once I saw a chick with my old 96 thinking she was hitting a chain link fence that was like 6 feet away???

DC,
Yeah, you know the pics I'm talkin about.

rrmike..........thanks for correcting the info on the rub..........same thing happens to my buddy's truck that has the 35/12.5 BFG M/T KMs on his stock rims.......the side lugs grab the spring just like you said.......caught me by surprise when he let me drive it and he didn't tell me before hand.

For some reason that example seemed to slip my mind........guess I'm slippin.......
