Any of you guys running, or have seen anyone running NOS on a V10? I used to run it on a '68 Mustang on the strip and on an '80 Trans Am on the street, with excellent results. Granted, if I were to put it on my truck, it wouldnt get used much, but it would be fun to play with now and then. Since I have the BBK throttle body, it seems to me that the same Nitrous Oxide Systems kit that fits the Cobra motor that the BBK throttle body is originally for, would fit on the V10 since it is the same throttle body. I tried a search here, but didnt come up with anything. Just an idea I am toying with.
Which transmission is crap? I have the ZF6 manual, it feels pretty steady to me. Why anyone would want an auto in a truck is beyond me......... but hey, to each his own. From what I have been able to find, the ZF6 is hailed as one of, if not the best super heavy duty manuals made. Many commercial trucks use them. Even chevy is using it now, acting like they invented it of course. I wouldn't juice a truck (NOx) but maybe a manual would hold up to it if I did.
Not a thing wrong with the auto trans IF you spend a little money in the right places to beef it up. I've already had my tranny worked over, so I'm not worried at all about it handling the extra HP. Both NOS and Nitrous Express have kits out for the 4.6 Cobra (the engine our BBK throttle body came from) which are adjustable from 75 to 140 hp boost. 140 is about as high as you can reliably go with a stock bottom end, and is probably plenty for the V10. I would really like to find someone who has done this on a V10 before though, and get some input.
You'll fry a piston. I already have with a supercharger. I am having another v10 built with forged pistons on eagle rods and the hot rod shop told me not to go over a 100 shot on the nitrous with the new pistons. I was hoping to go with a 300 shot. They also say that the crank is questionable. They tell me the best place to get reliable power is in the heads. The intake ports are tiny.
